Primary Responsibilities:
The Church pianist’s main responsibilities are to provide piano accompaniment for scheduled worship services and other activities/ worship opportunities that supplement the Church’s music ministry.
Scheduled worship services include:
- Wednesday Choir Practice (6:00 pm - 7:00 pm)
- Sunday worship - 8-12 songs per worship (9:15 am - 11:15 am)
Prelude, Opening Hymn, Entrance for Keiki Time, Hymn of Praise, Gloria Patri, Offertory, Doxology, Greetings with Congregation, Shalom, Postlude
- Holiday/ special worship services (e.g. Christmas/ New Year’s Eve, Good Friday, etc.)
Additional activities and worship opportunities:
Choir accompaniment during service and in rehearsals
Piano/ organ accompaniment for children’s/ youth group plays
Job Requirements/ Qualifications:
- Trained pianist/ organist; preferred musical degree in piano or organ
- Experience/ familiarity in church worship; prior experience with The United Methodist Hymnal is appreciated.
- Flexibility in contemporary and traditional worship songs
- Ability to sight-read music as well as chord charts/ lead sheets
- Sensitivity and ability to improvise during service (to play appropriate songs during prayer, tithes and offering)
- Ability to take direction and work with Pastor and Choir/Music Director to coordinate song lists or changes to song offerings.
- Ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner with church staff and members of the congregation.
Essential Duties:
- Provide high and consistent quality of piano/ organ accompaniment every Sunday at required times
- Support additional music ministry (e.g. church choir)
- Maintain an accurate account of piano/ organ needs and maintenance to Pastor/ church staff
- Pianist is responsible for communicating planned absences (preferably as soon as known) to allow for scheduling of a substitute pianist
- Assist Pastor and church staff in finding a substitute if requested/ not available
- Pianists are encouraged to help find a substitute pianist in case of scheduled accompaniments/ obligations.
Working Conditions/Hours:
On-site hours are
Wednesdays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Sundays, 9:15 am to 11:15 am.
- The actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Classical piano and organ is provided

- The pianist position includes a $200 weekly stipend, which covers participation in the Wednesday evening rehearsal and Sunday worship service. Compensation is provided upon completion of both commitments.
- Paychecks will be distributed on the 5th and 20th of each month. The applicant is responsible for submitting their hours to the Church Treasurer by the 15th and the last day of each month to ensure timely payment.
